Hartmoor Polo Joins SFHR as Primary Sponsor for Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing (SFHR) will have no problem staying properly hydrated on the sunny Streets of St. Petersburg, Fla. thanks to water company Hartmoor Polo signing on as primary sponsor for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Hartmoor Polo will grace the sidepods of the No. 67 SFHR Dallara/Honda/Firestone car for the first race of the IZOD IndyCar Series season and stay with the team throughout the year as the official team water supplier.

Hydration is key for drivers as temperatures in the cockpit of an IndyCar quickly rise to uncomfortable levels during race conditions.

"It's crucial to stay hydrated in a race car because elements of your performance can start to drop off as you become dehydrated," said Sarah Fisher, co-owner of SFHR. "We're happy to welcome a new partner to the SFHR family and are looking forward to drinking Hartmoor Polo water all season long."

SFHR returns to the track to kick off the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series season on March 24 for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The race will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 12pm ET.

Sophomore Sights Set High for Newgarden, SFHR at St. Pete

Josef Newgarden has packed away his rookie "incognito" season and is ready to start fresh in the No. 67 car for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing (SFHR) at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of St. Petersburg this weekend.

"We had all this down time, and now it feels like there's no time to get everything done for the race weekend," Newgarden said. "There's so much to still do with just a few days left. I'm currently really busy getting packed!"

Let's hope the sophomore star does not forget his helmet before heading south for the Streets of St. Petersburg, the first IZOD IndyCar Series race of the 2013 season.

"We're just so much more prepared as a team this year," Newgarden said. "We've had a lot of time to enable us to catch up. We dove into the season quickly last year without as much time to prepare. We've refined the car and gone over everything from the driver and car standpoint, so we've refined the process to be stronger this year."

Newgarden's highest finish of the 2012 season was at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, where he placed 11th.

"I love the environment in St. Pete," Newgarden said. "It's filled with a ton of IndyCar fans with good weather in a great city. The track is a high braking track. The braking in the car on that circuit is challenging, which also makes it very technical."

In four races last season, Newgarden turned the fastest lap of any driver. At the Indianapolis 500 he qualified seventh, which made him the quickest rookie qualifier. In 2013, Newgarden and SFHR will proudly attack the IZOD IndyCar Series schedule again backed by Honda power.

With sophomore status comes higher expectations for the No. 67 SFHR Dallara/Honda/Firestone car, and with less than five days remaining until the Honda Indy Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, SFHR is itching to get back to the track after a lengthy winter pause.

"I'm looking forward to the race weekend and the process you have to go through during the weekend with your team," Newgarden said. "It's so much fun to go through practice, qualifications and the race to get the weekend down to a good result over the three days. It's a blast to work with the team and get ready. Everyone's been chomping at the bit and we're hungry to start this year. We want to see the results this year from all of our efforts."

NBC Sports Network will air The Honda Indy Grand Prix of St. Petersburg at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 24.

Indy 500 for us painted in the CENTURY 21 colors."

The CENTURY 21 marketing campaign is a perfect fit for Newgarden, who as a 21-year old rookie turned heads at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2012 by topping the speed charts on multiple practice days.

Sponsor and Partner Quaker Chemical to Expand its Role with SFHR in 2013

Quaker Chemical Corporation has renewed its sponsorship for 2013 with Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing (SFHR) in an expanded sponsorship and technical partner role.

During the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season, Quaker Chemical spearheaded a research project designed to create proprietary greases and lubricants specifically engineered to combat the forces of friction, heat and wear for the unique demands of the Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing Team.

Joe Berquist, Quaker VP and Managing Director North America noted, "Our first year in IndyCar with SFHR was a great experience for Quaker. With the 2013 season, we are excited to continue leveraging our technical partnership with SFHR for ongoing product development, research and ideas. SFHR is a first-class organization and their family-centric approach to business is a great fit with Quaker’s culture. Josef Newgarden is a talented, charismatic, and motivated young driver. We are looking forward to a great 2013 season."

According to SFHR co-owner Sarah Fisher, the opportunity to partner with a top-notch sponsor like Quaker Chemical so soon after the conclusion of the 2012 race season bodes well for the team as it constructs its 2013 business plan.

"We are thrilled to continue such a great working relationship and sponsorship with Quaker Chemical,” Fisher said. “Quaker has been very involved from an engineering standpoint and I know the team enjoyed rolling up their sleeves during this partnership to assist from a technical perspective. To have a continuance of support from a quality sponsor who really benefits from our sport is a true indicator of the great things to come.”

The ongoing research and development technical alliance will allow Quaker to continually develop superior lubrication technology for use within its core industries and customers.

Kyle O’Gara Sets His Sights on Firestone Indy Lights in 2013

Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing (SFHR) development driver Kyle O’Gara took a big step in his career at Kentucky Speedway on October 18 when he strapped into a Firestone Indy Lights car for the first time.

At 17 years old, O’Gara turned just under 100 laps on the 1.5-mile tri-oval to pass his rookie orientation test for the Firestone Indy Lights series.

“I was a little nervous but it was just another step in the right direction for my career,” O’Gara said. “Getting used to using the clutch coming out of the pits and shifting was a big learning curve since I’m used to driving midgets which stay in one gear.”

O’Gara drove a car prepared by Fan Force United/ SFHR Development, with assistance from sponsors Service Central, SFHR Development, IUPUI and RW Motorsports.

SFHR IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden was on hand with open wheel veterans Sarah Fisher and Tyce Carlson to lend guidance.

“It was great to be part of a big day for Kyle,” Sarah Fisher said. “From a coaching standpoint, he was consistent. He got right to the driving line and continued to bring the speed up to a level that his engineer Mike Colliver was impressed with.”

Mike Colliver, who served as an engineering consultant for the test, noted O’Gara’s consistency during the test.

“Kyle settled right in and did exactly what we asked of him,” Colliver said. “He gave great feedback. We were able to do a lot of short runs to make changes on the car so he could see how it adapted to the changes. If he didn’t get up to speed as quickly as he did I wouldn’t have been able to do that.”

O’Gara’s quickest lap was just under 189 mph, which would have put him in the top-ten for qualifying at the last Firestone Indy Lights race at Kentucky Speedway.

O’Gara felt right at home driving at Kentucky Speedway, the site of Sarah Fisher’s first IndyCar pole and SFHR’s first IZOD IndyCar Series win.

“It meant a lot to me for my first open wheel test in a rear engine car to be at Kentucky Speedway,” O’Gara said. “It’s a track I’ve always dreamed of driving at and it has a lot of great memories for SFHR.”

In 2013, O’Gara and SFHR Development are working toward a partial oval schedule in Firestone Indy Lights in addition to a mixed USF2000 and USAC schedule.

Jon Laski: Dark Horse in Robo-Pong 200

Josef Newgarden and Nathan O'Rourke may be in the spotlight at the Robo-Pong 200 as former winners of the event, but there's one more Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing employee in the running. Gearbox mechanic Jon Laski will be competing in the 200-mile event with co-driver Simon Short, and Laski stands to lose more than just bragging rights if he doesn't have a good showing.

Earlier this week SFHR's crew chief Anton Julian made three bets with Laski in regard to his performance in Robo-Pong. Each bet is worth $50, and if Laski loses all three bets he has to pay up $150 and wear a pink firesuit in public for a week. The bets are:

  • Laski must qualify in the top-30
  • Laski must not get lapped by O'Rourke in the first stint of the race
  • If he doesn't have mechanical problems, Laski must not lose to O'Rourke.

Newgarden vs. O'Rourke: 2012 Robo-Pong 200

SFHR driver Josef Newgarden and his head engineer Nathan O'Rourke are used to playing on the same team to ensure the No. 67 SFHR Dallara/Honda/Firestone car is at the top of its game. However, they have maintained a healthy level of competition the entire year on challenges ranging from iRacing competitions to hair follicle count. After facing off 10 times, Newgarden and O'Rourke are tied with five victories each.

The final challenge of the season comes down to Sunday's Robo-Pong 200, where the two will face-off on different teams in the biggest kart race of the year at New Castle Motorsports Park. Newgarden will be teamed up with co-driver Mark Dismore, Jr. and O'Rourke will join forces with IZOD IndyCar driver Ed Carpenter for the 200-mile race. Both teams will be driving karts built by the same person and will share set-up data. With an even playing field, driver skill will be the difference between winning or going home a loser.

Newgarden has predicted that his lap times will be 0.5-0.6 seconds faster than O'Rourke. O'Rourke on the other hand believes that Newgarden will only be 0.2-0.3 seconds quicker. While there has been no trash talking, Newgarden did say this: "I think if anything Nate's just sad that he has to run with Ed and not me."

Take a look at Newgarden and O'Rourke's stats below to see who you think will pull off the victory:
